Five MPs' immunity waived

The plenary session of the Parliament voted in favour of lifting the immunity of five MPs in cases of libel and misconduct.

A total of 272 MEPs voted in favour of Panagis Kappatos, whose case concerned false libel: 267 Members voted in favour, 3 against and 2 were present. In a second case, also concerning the same offence, a total of 264 Members voted in favour. 259 voted in favour, 3 against and 2 were present.

For the remaining four MPs, the offence related to misconduct in relation to the 2018 decision of the Regional Council of Laconia to lift the expropriation of a land plot, of which they were members.

Specifically:

For the MP of SYRIZA Georgios Gavrilos:

A total of 265 MPs voted: 231 MPs voted in favour, 32 against, 2 present.

For PASOK MP Andreas Poulas:

A total of 266 Members voted: 231 Members voted in favour, 33 against and 2 present.

Pericles Mandas, Member of the South-West:

A total of 266 MPs voted: 232 in favour, 32 against and 2 'present'.

For the Member of the South-Western Party, Maria-Eleni Soukoulis:

A total of 263 Members voted: 229 in favour, 32 against and 2 present.

It should be noted that the Ethics Committee of the Parliament had unanimously recommended that their immunity be lifted and the MPs themselves had requested the same, except for Andreas Poulas who asked the MPs to vote according to their conscience.
