The first wave of farmers’ road blockades is expected to appear on November 30, with further expansions planned through December 5, according to decisions taken at the nationwide meeting of agricultural unions held in Nikaia, Larissa.

Farmers from many regions of Greece took part in the assembly, which focused on coordinating the protest actions scheduled for early December — most notably, the creation of a major blockade on the national highway.

Farmers from Thessaly proposed setting up a unified blockade along the main Athens–Thessaloniki motorway. At the same time, participants discussed establishing additional blockades across Greece starting in late November, aiming to spread the protest movement nationwide.

Representatives from other regions outlined their own local plans. Proposals included bringing tractors onto main roads, staging actions at ports, and introducing various other forms of protest depending on local needs and conditions.

The meeting was organised by the Panhellenic Coordinating Committee of Road Blockades. Delegations from across the country gathered at the Nikaia Cultural Centre to finalize dates and protest strategies ahead of the deployment of tractors and the launch of new mobilisations.

Regarding their demands, farmers voiced strong objections over the OPEKEPE scandal, as well as the longstanding structural problems affecting the primary sector. They highlighted soaring production costs and called for guaranteed product prices. They also denounced severe delays in ELGA compensation payments and demanded substantial measures to combat sheep pox, which has led to significant losses in livestock.
