EOF warns against the use of antidiabetic drugs for obesity

In light of the reports regarding the use of injectable antidiabetic drugs for weight loss, the National Organization for Medicine (EOF) deems it appropriate to responsibly inform healthcare professionals and the public of the following:

Antidiabetic drugs have not been studied and are not intended for use for aesthetic purposes, i.e. for weight loss by healthy people.

Antidiabetic drugs that have weight loss as an approved indication are intended for the additional treatment of obese patients (BM ≥ 30) or overweight patients (BMI ≥ 27) provided that they have at least one additional disorder related to increased weight (e.g. hypertension, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, etc.) and who have not responded satisfactorily to the otherwise imposed low-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Antidiabetic drugs that do not have an approved indication for weight loss have not been studied and are not intended for this purpose.
