Doctors announce strike action
Doctors in the public health system are going on a nationwide strike on March 18, following a decision by the Federation of Hospital Doctors' Unions (OENGE). They will hold a rally at 12:00 a.m. at the health ministry.
At the same time, the Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Public Hospitals (POEDIN) has declared a 24-hour nationwide health strike for Thursday, March 19, with a work stoppage in Attica from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and a 24-hour strike in the region. Workers in public hospitals are planning a rally at 9 a.m. at the health ministry.
Doctors and nurses are calling for the resolution of financial and institutional demands.
"We are escalating our struggle for substantial increases in our salaries, massive hiring of permanent full-time and exclusive doctors, and humane schedules," according to OENGE.
