Speaking at the closing session of the parliamentary committee reviewing the new development law, Theodorikakos emphasized that protecting employment remains the top priority for investment projects. He highlighted that the government will implement stronger support measures specifically targeting border and rural areas, warning that population decline in these regions poses a threat not only economically but also to national security.

Transparency and Oversight in Investment Support
According to the Greek State News Agency (ANA-MPA), Theodorikakos stated that investment evaluation processes will be conducted with full transparency, involving independent certified experts alongside ministry staff. All evaluation data will be recorded in an updated digital system.

Focus on Evros and Underdeveloped Areas
The minister noted that regions where per capita income falls below 70% of the national average will benefit from the special incentive scheme. This includes key border areas such as Evros, which will receive priority support for investment and employment initiatives.

Housing Support for Young People
Addressing the housing crisis, Theodorikakos announced that a rental assistance program for young people will be launched every November. Highlighting the high cost of living in major cities, he said, “Housing policy puts young people at its center.”

Response to Industry Calls for Flexible Employment Conditions
The minister’s remarks came after industrial representatives voiced demands for more flexible employment conditions during earlier committee sessions. Theodorikakos responded by stressing the importance of strengthening the production sector as a national necessity, cautioning that a “quick profit” mentality risks serious societal and economic problems.

The new development law and targeted incentives for border regions are seen as strategic moves to boost local economies and maintain population levels in these critical areas.
