Dendias makes remarkable statement on '12 Miles'!
Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias marked the 4th anniversary of the extension of territorial waters in the Ionian Sea with a noteworthy post on his "X" account. Dendias emphasized Greece’s firm stance, stating, “Greece didn’t just declare a right; it implemented it.”
In his post, Dendias wrote:
“Four years ago, Greece expanded its territorial waters in the Ionian Sea from 6 nautical miles to 12 nautical miles for the first time since 1947.
It was my honor to present this Law to the Greek Parliament, where it was passed with an overwhelming majority. With its approval, our Homeland didn’t merely declare its right stemming from the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea; it exercised it.”
This extension of territorial waters, a significant move in Greece’s maritime policy, continues to be a point of pride and strategic importance for the country.
