Death toll in floods in Greece reaches 6
The loss of life is increasing in the floods that occurred after heavy rainfall caused by Storm Daniel.
The lifeless bodies of two brothers aged 75 and 85 were found during the search operations in Thessaly. Thus, the number of people who lost their lives in the flood disaster increased to 6. Local news reported that the woman did not want to leave the house, her relatives were worried and the rescue team went to the house and found them dead.
THE DAM BROKE, THE SITUATION IS SERIOUS
"Rescue teams will continue door-to-door searches in villages where electricity has been cut off and evacuate those trapped to safety," Greek Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias said yesterday evening. Kikilias said the most serious situation was between Trikala and Karditsa, where a dam collapsed and a river overflowed.
BIG LOSS
Due to Storm Daniel, which has been effective since Monday, a bridge collapsed and electricity poles were toppled. Streets, alleys and houses were flooded, dozens of vehicles were dragged in flood waters. Major damage occurred in the infrastructure. Fire and rescue teams and the army continue to work in flooded areas, while trying to reach the most remote areas of Thessaly by helicopters and boats.
