Dead man found in burning car in Athens’ Pangrati district
Police in Athens are investigating the discovery of a dead body in a car that had gone up in flames in the early hours of Thursday, in the upscale area of Mets in the Pangrati district.
The body is that of an unidentified male and it was found in a reclining position in the car’s passenger seat by firefighters after they extinguished a blaze that had engulfed the red jeep.
The car itself has been described as having foreign license plates that are now being traced in the search for the vehicle’s owner.
The incident took place on Markos Mousouros Street, a relatively quiet residential road that also features a handful of popular bars and cafes.
Experts are also examining a mobile phone outside the car, which was parked along the side of the street.
An autopsy scheduled to take place later on Thursday is expected to shed more light on the incident.
