Courts for suspects caught in the act must operate at weekends, Supreme Court President says

In a very urgent document to the heads of all first-instance courts in the country on Friday, Supreme Court President Ioanna Klapa informed them that the single-member and three-member courts for suspected offenders 'caught in the act' must henceforth also operate during the weekends and holidays. This requirement also extends to examining magistrates and presidents on duty.
In her note, Klapa said that on the basis of a 2022 law on the operation of the courts, they are obliged to assign the members making up such courts at weekends and holidays, as well as the examining magistrates and presidents on duty, who must available at any given time to carry out their duties.
"The omission for any reason to implement the above will have as a consequence the jeopardising of the legal assets of the citizens and thereby insulting the prestige of justice," she concluded.
