Coronavirus cases decrease by 7%, deaths rise by 24%
A total of 109 Covid patients lost their lives during the same period, while the number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals stands at 62.
The National Public Health Organization (EODY) said in its weekly report that infection cases decreased by 7%, while deaths increased by 24%.
The 51,184 new infections are equivalent to 4,906 coronavirus cases per 1 mln people (weekly change: -7%), with 23% of the new weekly infections being reinfections.
5 MILLION and MORE INFECTIONS
All confirmed infections since the pandemic began are 5,026,494.
A total of 1,102 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital during the week of October 3-9 (157 patients on a weekly average, 3% compared to the previous week), while the total number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals for the same week was 881 (126 as weekly average, or 3% compared to previous week).
In addition, 62 hospital patients were on ventilators on October 9. Their median age is 70 years and 96.8% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.
109 DEATHS
During the week of October 3-9 there were also 109 deaths from Covid-19, or 10 deaths per 1 mln people (weekly change: 24%), bringing the total of pandemic victims since the pandemic began to 33,313.
Prevailing Covid-19 mutation is Omicron BA.5 at 95%, while 15 cases with the Kentaurus mutation have been identified.
