Cool weekend ahead in Greece with gusty Aegean winds easing by sunday
A cooler, autumn-like weekend is expected across Greece, following a noticeable drop in temperatures in the northern regions and strong meltemi winds in the Aegean Sea. The seasonal northerly winds are forecast to gradually weaken starting Sunday, allowing for a slight rise in temperatures across much of the country.
Nevrokopi records near-freezing temperatures
The chill was most sharply felt in Nevrokopi, where the temperature fell to just 1.7°C early Friday morning—an unusually low reading for September. Other parts of Macedonia and northern Greece also reported single-digit morning temperatures, marking the arrival of cooler seasonal patterns.
Strong winds across the Aegean
Today, northerly winds (meltemia) will remain strong, particularly over the Aegean Sea, where gusts may reach up to force 8 on the Beaufort scale. Winds in the Ionian Sea will be milder, reaching force 4–5. The meltemia are expected to ease gradually by Sunday afternoon.
