Cloudy skies, light rain and African dust forecast across Greece
Cloudy conditions are expected across Greece today, with periods of thin cloud cover becoming denser in several regions. Light local rain or showers are forecast mainly in western parts of the country from midday onward. By the afternoon, these weather phenomena will gradually extend to central and southern mainland areas, reaching western and central Macedonia by the evening.
Visibility will be locally reduced during the early morning hours, particularly over central and northern mainland regions. At the same time, weather conditions are favorable for the transport of African dust, especially affecting western and southern areas.
Winds will blow from the east and southeast, reaching 4 to 6 Beaufort in the west and locally up to 7, while in the Ionian islands they may reach 8 Beaufort. In eastern regions, winds will range from 3 to 5 Beaufort, and up to 6 Beaufort in the southern Aegean.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged. Northern regions will see highs of 18–20°C, western areas 24–25°C, while the rest of the country will range between 21–22°C, with Crete locally reaching 23°C.
Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Intermittent cloud cover, occasionally denser, with local rain or showers expected in western and central Macedonia during the evening hours. Brief showers may also occur in mountainous areas during midday and afternoon. Winds will be easterly at 3–4 Beaufort, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in the east. Temperatures will range from 5°C to 19°C, locally up to 20°C.
Attica: Partly cloudy skies with occasional denser clouds and a chance of light local rain during the evening. Winds will be easterly at 3–4 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 10°C to 21°C.
Thessaloniki: Similar conditions with intermittent cloudiness and local rain during the night. Winds will be east to southeast at 3–4 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 9°C to 19°C.
Outlook for Wednesday, April 15
Cloud cover will increase at times across the country, with local rain expected in western, central, and northern regions. Visibility may be limited in western mainland areas during morning and evening hours. African dust transport will continue, mainly affecting western and southern parts.
Winds will remain east to southeast in the west at 4–6 Beaufort, locally reaching 7–8 Beaufort in the southern Ionian. In the east, winds will be east to northeast at 3–5 Beaufort, reaching up to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will remain steady, reaching up to 25°C in the west and around 21–23°C elsewhere.
Outlook for Thursday, April 16
In Thrace and the eastern Aegean islands, cloudiness will be intermittent. Elsewhere, increased cloud cover with local rain is expected. African dust will mainly affect southern regions. Winds will shift to northerly directions at 4–6 Beaufort, and up to 7–8 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will remain stable.
Outlook for Friday, April 17
Western and northern areas will experience light cloud cover at times becoming denser, with local rain in the northwest. Elsewhere, periods of increased cloudiness will bring local rain, while southern island regions may see thunderstorms. African dust will affect southeastern areas. Winds will be northerly to northeasterly at 3–6 Beaufort, reaching 7–8 Beaufort in the east. A slight drop in temperature is expected.
Outlook for Saturday, April 18
Crete and the Dodecanese will see some cloudiness with occasional local rain. The rest of the country will enjoy mostly clear weather, although temporary cloud cover may develop over northern mainland areas around midday, with a chance of isolated showers.
Winds will blow from the north at 3–5 Beaufort, reaching 6–7 Beaufort in eastern areas and temporarily up to 8 Beaufort. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged.
