Cloudy skies across Greece with African dust and local rain
Cloudy skies are expected across Greece on Wednesday, April 15, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service. Localised rain showers are forecast for the Ionian Sea and parts of western, central, and northern mainland areas.
Visibility will be locally reduced during early morning and evening hours in western mainland regions.
Weather conditions will also favour the transport of African dust to central and southern parts of the country.
Winds in western areas will blow from the east-southeast at 4–6 Beaufort, reaching up to 7 Beaufort in the southern Ionian before gradually easing in the afternoon. In the eastern regions, winds will come from the northeast at 3–5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6 in the Aegean Sea.
Temperatures are expected to remain stable, reaching 18–20°C in the north, 24–25°C in western areas, 20–22°C in most other regions, and up to 24°C in northern Crete.
Regional forecast
Macedonia and Thrace: Clouds will be intermittently increased, with local showers mainly in western and central Macedonia until the afternoon. Winds will be easterly at 3–4 Beaufort, locally up to 5. Temperatures will range from 9°C to 20°C.
Attica: Partly cloudy skies with occasional thicker cloud cover. Winds from the north-northeast at 3–4 Beaufort, strengthening locally in the east. Temperatures between 12°C and 22°C.
Thessaloniki: Light cloud cover increasing at times, with a chance of weak local showers mainly in the morning. Temperatures from 10°C to 21°C.
Outlook for Thursday, April 16
Cloudy conditions will persist across most of the country, with scattered light rain mainly over mainland Greece and Crete. African dust will continue to affect eastern and southeastern regions.
Winds will strengthen, blowing from the north-northeast at 4–6 Beaufort, reaching 6–7 in the Aegean and locally up to 8 Beaufort at night.
Temperatures will remain steady, reaching 20–22°C, and locally 23–24°C in western mainland and eastern island areas.
