Bear mauls elderly man in Zagori village

An elderly man is being treated for serious injuries after being attacked by a bear in the yard of his home in the mountain village of Doliani, in the Zagori area of northwestern Greece, reports said Wednesday.

According to Kathimerini, the bear entered the property searching for food when it attacked, the reports said. Villagers rushed to help after hearing the man’s screams and found him bleeding on the ground. He was taken by ambulance to Ioannina University Hospital.

Residents say bear sightings have become more frequent in the region’s mountain villages. While raids on crops are common, locals described this attack as unprecedented for Zagori.
