“AIR CONNECT” working meeting to be held in Kavala to boost air connectivity in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace

The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (REMTh) is organizing the working meeting “AIR CONNECT | East Macedonia & Thrace” on Friday, January 30, 2026, aiming to strengthen air connectivity and enhance the region’s international accessibility.

The meeting will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Kavala Administrative Building, in the “Nikolaos Martis” Hall.

Strategic Plan for Air Route Development

During the session, officials will present the strategic framework for developing air connections across the region, including:

  • The methodology for approaching international markets,
  • A three-year action plan for air route development,
  • And the creation of a stable and sustainable model of air connectivity.

The initiative seeks to establish long-term cooperation with airlines and tourism stakeholders, ensuring consistent and viable air links that support economic growth.

Air Connectivity as a Development Tool

Commenting on the initiative, Christodoulos Topsidis, Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, emphasized the strategic importance of air transport:

Air connectivity is a key tool for the development prospects of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. With ‘AIR CONNECT,’ we are laying the foundations for an organized, realistic and sustainable model of cooperation with airlines and all tourism stakeholders, enabling our region to strengthen its international presence and fully utilize its comparative advantages.”

Broad Participation from Key Stakeholders

The meeting has invited participation from:

  • Institutional bodies and local government representatives,
  • Tourism and productive sector organizations,
  • And airline representatives currently operating in the region or planning new routes.

Officials highlight that enhanced air connectivity is critical for boosting tourism, investment and regional competitiveness, positioning Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as a stronger hub in the wider Southeastern European and Eastern Mediterranean region.
