It was reported that the perpetrator of the incident at İpsala Customs, where a motorcyclist was hit and the driver fled, was a 16-year-old Greek national.
The young driver was shot in the leg and incapacitated after ignoring police orders to stop.
The incident took place in the area between İpsala Customs Gate and Kipi Customs Gate. The Greek teenager sped through the passport control at the Kipi customs area, crossing into Turkey without stopping. Greek police stationed at the Evros River bridge informed their counterparts that the vehicle had crossed into Turkish territory at high speed. Greek customs officials then contacted the Turkish side, alerting them that the vehicle had bypassed control.
Greek media reported that the teenager allegedly had psychological issues and was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation by the Edessa Prosecutor’s Office last June.
