Ex-Norway PM Jagland hospitalized amid Epstein probe

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland has been hospitalized following an apparent suicide attempt, days after being charged with gross corruption linked to his alleged ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a report published Tuesday.

The news was first reported by iNyheter, which cited a “rock-solid source” saying the 75-year-old’s condition remains critical. The medical facility where he is being treated has not been disclosed.

Jagland is one of Norway’s most prominent political figures, having served as prime minister and later as Secretary General of the Council of Europe. He also chaired the Norwegian Nobel Committee from 2009 to 2015.

The report has sparked debate over media transparency in Norway. According to iNyheter, members of the Norwegian Editors' Association and select editors had reached an understanding with Jagland’s lawyer, Anders Brosveet, not to cover the hospitalization.

Separately, Norwegian police reportedly raided several of Jagland’s properties this month as part of the corruption investigation, broadcaster NRK said.

The charges follow the latest release of Epstein-related documents by the U.S. Justice Department, which allegedly detail years of contact between Jagland and Epstein, including reported offers of luxury trips and stays.

Authorities have not publicly commented on the latest developments.
