From Monday (11 August), Greek citizens will no longer pay fees when withdrawing cash from ATMs operated by Greek banks, thanks to a new regulation by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance.

The measure, passed on July 25, also sets a maximum charge of €1.50 for withdrawals made from ATMs operated by third-party providers. Authorities say the adjustment period was kept as short as possible to ensure immediate relief for consumers.

“This is an intervention that supports society and responds directly to citizens’ needs,” said National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis. “We are abolishing unfair and excessive charges, ensuring free access to money for everyone, wherever they live.”

The initiative aims to make banking more accessible, particularly for residents in rural and remote areas.
