Many patients from Balkan countries prefer Edirne for healing

Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu said, "3 thousand 92 international patients came in 2023. In the first 4 months of 2024, 537 international patients came. These figures are those who applied to the international patient unit. If you look at those who came themselves without applying, this figure reaches 10 thousand."
Trakya University Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu said that patients mostly from Balkan countries apply to Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Hospital to find healing.
Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu, in his speech at the 50th anniversary ceremony of the establishment of Trakya University Faculty of Medicine held at the Balkan Congress Center, said that the faculty is the most important health centre of the region.
Stating that patients from many Balkan countries as well as Turkey choose Edirne for treatment, Tabakoğlu said, "There is no such health institution until the middle of Germany. We have 873 doctors, 112 of whom are professors, and 2 thousand 71 employees. The entire university employs 5 thousand people, but 3 thousand people work at the Faculty of Medicine. We can understand from here how great its specific weight is. We serve our region with 117 intensive care beds."
Tabakoğlu stated that the number of international patients is increasing day by day.
Stating that most patients from Balkan countries came from Kosovo, Bulgaria and Greece, Tabakoğlu said, "In 2023, 3 thousand 92 international patients came. In the first 4 months of 2024, 537 international patients came. These figures are those who applied to the international patient unit. If you look at those who come without applying, this figure reaches 10 thousand. Trakya University has made a visible progress in every field. I would like to say that the locomotive of this rapid progress of the university is the Faculty of Medicine. It is pioneering in many ways. Happy 50th birthday."
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Filiz Akata gave information about the historical process of the faculty established in 1974.
Stating that the faculty started its activities as Edirne Faculty of Medicine within Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in Istanbul, Akata said, "Our faculty has become a medical faculty that provides health services to international patients from Balkan countries with its 1000-bed hospital. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to this great work and helped us reach these days."
State Conservatory Balkan Symphony Orchestra gave a concert under the direction of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Zafer, and the ceremony ended with the awarding of certificates to faculty members who received academic promotion.
