Istanbul BATÖB students attend “Meskhetian Turks” program
Students from the Istanbul Western Thrace Student Union (BATÖB) participated in an event organized at the invitation of the Meskhetian Volunteer Educators Association.
The students attended the theatrical performance “Kara Leke” at the Istanbul Atatürk Cultural Center and visited the accompanying art exhibition titled “A Nation in the Shadow of Exile: Meskhetian Turks.”
In a statement, BATÖB highlighted the significance of the program:
“We had the opportunity to deeply experience the drama of the 1944 deportation of the Meskhetian Turks, their resistance, and their struggle to preserve their cultural heritage—both through the powerful language of theater and the expressive medium of art. This meaningful program once again emphasized the importance of remembering painful historical events and preserving collective memory rather than allowing them to be forgotten.
