Greeks the largest student community in Bulgaria

According to the data of the National Institute of Statistics for 2022/2023, almost a quarter of the foreign students studying in Bulgaria come from Greece. In second place are students from the UK and in third place are students from Germany.
Although the number of foreign university students in Bulgaria has increased in the last few years, no change was recorded in the last academic year.
In the 2021/2022 academic year, the number of foreign students totalled 17,616, while the figure for the 2022/2023 semester was announced at 17,593.
62.4 per cent of foreign students study medicine.
The highest proportion of university students from Greece is 22 per cent, or 3,870 students. This is followed by the British with 14.4 per cent or 2,533, the Germans with 9.8 per cent or 1,724, the Ukrainians with 9.1 per cent or 1,600 and students from North Macedonia with 5.5 per cent or 967.
