Greek police bust gang smuggling Albanian marijuana to Türkiye
Greek police, working with authorities in North Macedonia and Kosovo, have dismantled a drug-smuggling network accused of transporting Albanian marijuana to Türkiye hidden inside truckloads of recyclable waste.
Two foreign nationals were arrested Friday in the wider Thessaloniki area in connection with a shipment containing nearly 325 kilograms of marijuana, Greek police said.
Drugs hidden in recycling cargo
According to a police statement, the network concealed the drugs inside long-haul trucks carrying paper and cardboard destined for recycling facilities in Türkiye.
The seized marijuana was estimated to have a street value of more than €700,000.
Third suspect wanted
The investigation began following a tip-off and led to the arrests of the two suspects.
An arrest warrant has been issued for a third suspect, while authorities are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged smuggling network.
The operation involved cooperation between Greek police and authorities in North Macedonia and Kosovo.
