Bulgaria is set to become the first EU country to introduce targeted support for energy-intensive industries amid the ongoing energy crisis.
Energy Minister Traicho Traikov said the scheme, now awaiting final approval from the European Commission, is expected to begin within weeks.
The plan will cover 50% of extra electricity costs when prices exceed €63 per megawatt hour, applied retroactively from July 1, 2025.
Backed by €125 million, the measure aims to ease pressure on industry, while household electricity prices will remain unchanged.
