US Justice Department subpoenas relatives of Rep. Ilhan Omar: Report

Federal agents investigating Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar have issued subpoenas to some of her relatives as part of a criminal inquiry into her family’s immigration history, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, and at least one other family member received subpoenas, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the investigation.

The move came a day after Department of Homeland Security agents executed a search warrant at Omar’s home in Washington, DC and carried out boxes of documents.

The inquiry focuses in part on whether Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, lied or omitted information on immigration forms before becoming a US citizen, the report said.

Omar criticized the federal search at her home Monday, describing the operation as an effort by the Trump administration to intimidate political opponents.

"Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement," she wrote on the US social media platform X, confirming her safety while adding "I will not be silenced."

US President Donald Trump claimed Tuesday on his Truth Social platform that Omar had committed fraud.

“America wants answers, and we want them, NOW!” he said.

Vice President JD Vance said he had no advance notice of the search of Omar's home.
