The Syrian government has announced a nationwide ceasefire and a landmark integration agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), marking a major shift in control over the country’s northeast.

President Ahmad al-Sharaa confirmed on Sunday that the deal includes an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across all confrontation lines between government forces and the SDF. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the agreement aims to reestablish full state authority while avoiding reprisals against former SDF personnel.

Under the terms of the agreement, all SDF-affiliated military units will withdraw to areas east of the Euphrates River as part of a transitional redeployment process. In parallel, the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa will be transferred entirely to Syrian government control, both administratively and militarily.

All civilian institutions and public facilities in these provinces will be handed over to state authorities. Employees currently working in local administrations will retain their positions and be formally integrated into relevant Syrian ministries. The government has pledged that no punitive actions will be taken against SDF members or civilian administrators.

The agreement also covers Hasakah province, where all civilian governance structures will be merged into the Syrian state’s administrative framework.

In addition, the Syrian government will assume control of all border crossings as well as oil and gas fields in the region. These strategic assets will be secured by state forces, with revenues directed to the national treasury, according to SANA.

Analysts view the deal as one of the most significant political and military developments in Syria in recent years, potentially reshaping power dynamics in the northeast and redefining relations between Damascus and Kurdish-led forces.
