Hundreds of people fell into the river as a result of the collapse of a suspension bridge in the Indian state of Gujarat, at least 90 people died.

According to the news in the Indian media, a suspension bridge with at least 500 people on it collapsed in the town of Morbi in Gujarat state in the west of the country.

Hundreds of people on the bridge fell into the Macchu River, while at least 90 people were declared dead.

LOSS OF LIVES MAY INCREASED

Gujarat state minister Brijesh Merja stated that search and rescue efforts continue and the number of missing persons has not yet been determined.

Gujarat Police Chief Ashish Bhatia said that many people were rescued but the death toll could increase.

In the images that fell in the local press, it was seen that some people took shelter in the water surface of the collapsed bridge.

In addition, it is stated that the collapsed bridge has been reopened for use after a recent maintenance.

In a statement on Twitter, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that he was deeply saddened by the incident and said, “Search and rescue teams will assist the victims. The tragedy in Gujarat worries me. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected people.”

Modi also stated that approximately $2,430 will be given to the relatives of those who lost their lives in the accident, and approximately $600 to those who were injured.
