'Mapping the Future': TRT World Forum 2022 to starts today

Event to bring together global leaders, journalists, experts to discuss uncertainties, realities and opportunities worldwide.

The two-day TRT World Forum 2022, which will "tackle the most pressing issues in tomorrow's world" is set to begin on Friday (today) in Istanbul.

Under the theme of Mapping the Future: Uncertainties, Realities and Opportunities, the annual event will gather academics, journalists, intellectuals, politicians, and members of civil society from around the globe.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to deliver the opening speech, followed by speeches from Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and Mehmet Zahid Sobaci, the director general of TRT.

After being held virtually for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, experts will attend in person a total of 22 public sessions and expert roundtables, and debate a variety of issues.

The sessions and discussions to feature this year include The Russia-Ukraine War: Lessons Learned, Feeding the World: Ensuring Global Food Security in Times of Crisis, Between Recession and Stagflation: The World Economy at the Crossroads, Beyond Humanitarianism: Addressing the Global Migration Crisis, and The Energy Crisis and Climate Change: Time to Turn Crisis into Opportunity?

European security and transatlantic relations will also be discussed in an expert roundtable titled European Security and the Future of the Transatlantic Relations Islamophobia Today: Right-Left Convergences.

The speakers will include Tedros Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization; Ryszard Czarnecki, member of the European Parliament; Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, head of the EU delegation to Türkiye; Thomas Greminger, director of Geneva Center for Security Policy; and Gillian Triggs, assistant high commissioner for protection at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
