Zeybek slams Government over delayed “Amalthea” support payments
Hüseyin Zeybek, MP for İskeçe and Head of Agricultural Policy for the New Left Party, strongly criticized the government in parliament over its handling of the “Amalthea” support program, highlighting the financial hardship faced by island livestock farmers.
The €12 million program, legislated under Article 113 of Law 4926/2022, was designed to offset rising feed and transport costs for island farmers. However, Zeybek stressed that although applications were completed in September 2023, no payments have been made as of September 2025—despite repeated promises from both the Agriculture Minister and the Prime Minister.
“Farmers are suffering severe financial strain as feed prices and transport costs keep rising, while milk producer prices remain low,” Zeybek said, accusing the government of deception.
He directed sharp questions at the Ministers of Agriculture and Maritime & Island Policy:
- Why have “Amalthea” payments still not been made three years later?
- Why were payments withheld even though state aid inspections were completed nearly a year ago?
- What is the definitive and binding payment schedule for farmers?
Zeybek urged the government to honor its commitments and immediately release the funds to keep island farmers afloat.
