Xanthi Turkish Union continues to set examples

The Youth Meetings of Xanthi Turkish Union continue with the project 'I Know My Hometown'.

In the "Youth Meetings" organised by the Youth Branch of the Xanthi Turkish Union, the historical sites of Xanthi were visited this month.

The Youth Meetings organised every month by the Youth Branch of Xanthi Turkish Union were held in April in the format of "Let's Travel, Let's See, Let's Learn". The young people named this format, which they realised for the first time, as "I Know My Hometown Project".

On Tuesday, 30 April 2024, ITB Youth Section members came together and visited some historical sites in Xanthi and received information about them.

Under the guidance of Rıdvan Topçu, one of the religious officials of the Mufti's Office of Xanthi, the young people met in Arenmahalle, the most historical area of the city and started to visit the places in the city. Youth Branch Officer Önder Şabanoğlu gave information about the historical process from the settlement of the first Turks in Xanthi until today. Historical Arenmahalle Mosque, mansions, historical artefacts and historical events in Xanthi were explained by Rıdvan Topçu. In 1972, the young people went to the location of the Tabakhane Mosque, which was demolished by the Junta administration, and received information from Rıdvan Topçu about the demolition process of the mosque and the events that took place there. Passing through the area where the mansions of Mehmet and Hilmi pashas and other historical artefacts in the vicinity are located, the young people were finally informed about the Mosque, Clock Tower and Madrasah, which were presented to the people of Xanthi by Hacı Emin Aga in Xanthi city square.

Finally, after taking a souvenir photo under the historical clock tower, which has become the symbol of Xanthi and was built during the Ottoman period, the young people expressed that they were very impressed by the programme and they were looking forward to the continuation of the programme.
