Western Thrace Turks keep their 700-year-old tradition alive
Historical SEÇEK Oil Wrestling and Cultural Events in the Rhodope Mountains continue with the second day program.


SEÇEK Oil Wrestling and Cultural Activities, whose rooted tradition of Western Thrace Turkish Minority dates back 7 centuries, is organized by SEÇEK Minority Education and Culture Association this year.

Historical SEÇEK Oil Wrestling and Cultural Events, which started with the reciting of the Mevlid-i Şerif on the football field of Mehrikoz village of Kozlukebir Municipality in the Rhodope Mountains, on Friday, July 15, continues with the second day program.

The second day program started with 2022 SEÇEK Agha Hüseyin Apti coming to the event area accompanied by drums and zurnas, greeting his fellow countrymen, and taking his place in the protocol.

Later, the residents of Salıncak, Hebilköy, Babalar, Büyük Derbert - Kartunça presented cattle to the agha, while the residents of Mehrikoz and Kamberler presented small cattle to the agha.

After the gifts, the Mehmet Hilmi Country Race was held in which both boys and girls competed in the junior and senior category.

Then, rope pulling competitions were held according to the sack and age.

After the competitions, local wrestling started.

Wrestlers competed in the local dusting and local small middles categories.

On the second day, the program will end with the concert of Elis Dubas and Ricardo Moyano at 20.00, and the concert of the famous artist Tolga Çandar, who came from the motherland of Turkey, at 21.30.
