Two Municipal Council Members expelled from ruling group in Gümülcine
Two members of the Gümülcine Municipal Council, Dimitris Karastavrou and Kleopatra Stogiannidou, have been expelled from the ruling municipal group Citizens’ Society (Koinonia Politon), led by Mayor Yannis Garanis.
The decision was taken unanimously during an extraordinary municipal council meeting held on December 23, following a proposal by Mayor Garanis, who also heads the Citizens’ Society list.
According to Garanis, the two council members had for a prolonged period displayed a systematic and non-constructive stance against the policies of the municipal administration. He further stated that they directed divisive criticism toward both the mayor and fellow members of the ruling group.
With the required legal quorum present, the council voted unanimously in favor of their expulsion. As a result of the decision, Karastavrou and Stogiannidou have assumed independent status within the municipal council as of December 23.
Municipal authorities confirmed that the decision will be formally communicated to the Municipal Council Presidency and the relevant institutions in accordance with established procedures.
