Turks from Western Thrace: Greece does not respect minority rights

In its statement on the occasion of 10 December World Human Rights Day, FEP Party stated that Greece does not show the necessary respect to the human rights of the Turkish community in Western Thrace.

The Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party, which defends the rights of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace, declared that Greece does not show the necessary respect for the human rights of the Turkish community in Western Thrace.

Friendship Equality Peace (FEP) Party issued a statement on the occasion of 10 December World Human Rights Day.

In the statement, it was stated that there are still human rights violations in Greece and added: "Unfortunately, the policies of Greece, of which we are citizens, come to the fore in terms of human rights violations."

The statement noted that it is obvious that Greece does not show the necessary respect to the minority and human rights of the Turkish community in Western Thrace and emphasised that discrimination and injustice still continue on issues such as education, freedom of religion and ethnic identity.

In the statement, it was reminded that Greece does not comply with the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and it was wished that peace and tranquility would prevail all over the world without discrimination of race, religion and gender.

The statement of the FEP Party is as follows:

"We once again wholeheartedly celebrate the World Human Rights Day, which has been celebrated since 10 December 1948, when the Declaration of Human Rights was adopted.

Today, although we have come a long way in terms of human rights all over the world, unfortunately, we still encounter ongoing wars and human rights violations in our country.

Unfortunately, the policies of Greece, our country of citizenship, also come to the fore in terms of human rights violations.

It is obvious that our country Greece, which is a member of the European Union and expresses at every opportunity that it respects human rights, does not show the necessary respect for the human and minority rights of the Muslim Turkish Minority of Western Thrace.

The fact that discrimination and injustices have continued in the recent period, especially in education, freedom of religion and ethnic identity, reveals that the issue of human rights in our country should be taken seriously. One of the clearest indicators of this is the ECtHR judgements that have not been implemented for years, despite the fact that the ECtHR has found our associations right and has been pressuring our country to implement these judgements.

On this occasion, while celebrating the Human Rights Day of our Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority and all the nations of the world, we sincerely wish that peace and tranquility prevail all over the world without discrimination of race, religion and gender."
