Turkish photographers open exhibition in Alexandroupoli
On 20 January Saturday, the opening ceremony took place at the Alexandroupolis History Museum and was attended by the Consul of Greece in Edirne Aristidis Radiopulos, the President of Alexandroupolis Thrace Creative Photography Centre Karayorgou Dimosthenis, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Edirne Photographic Art Association (EFOD) Serdar İyiiz and members of the association, as well as the Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Culture of Alexandroupolis Municipality Kiryakos Aetopoulos.
Nilgün Erman, one of the coordinators of the EFOD photography workshop, stated that they were very pleased to be here this evening as members of the association and thanked the members of Alexandroupolis Thrace Creative Photography Association for hosting the event.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Consul of Edirne Radiopoulos emphasised the importance of the cooperation between the two associations. "I believe that the cooperation between the two associations has a great future and will yield important photographic fruits. Art can mobilise people in search of beauty, regardless of which side of the border they live on. However, I would like to mention another aspect of the cooperation between the two associations. It is that we are laying the foundations for joint participation and interaction in two neighbouring countries using art as a tool. This approach brings people closer to each other and lays the foundations for resisting nationalistic sirens that lead people down dangerous paths. In closing, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this organisation. Photography is not just a simple reflection of reality. It is an interpretation of it through the eyes of the photographer, it is also an invitation. Sometimes it is even a door for the viewer to enter a magical world. I wish you all success in this co-operation."
"WE STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS EXHIBITION WILL BE AN IMPORTANT CULTURAL BRIDGE"
In his speech, Serdar İyiiz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Edirne Photographic Art Association, said: "We attach great importance to this exhibition, which is the first of our joint works between the two associations. We strongly believe that this exhibition will be an important cultural bridge. In the meantime, we would like to thank Mr Radiopoulos, Consul of Edirne, for his contribution in bringing the two associations together. I believe that the opening of this exhibition will further strengthen the already existing relations between art friends in Greece and Türkiye. Thank you for hosting us. We hope to meet at the exhibition to be organised by Thrace Photography Association in Edirne; long live friendship, long live peace, long live art".
In the exhibition, 39 photographs were exhibited under the name of "The Eye of the Street" of Edirne Photography Art Association.
