Authorities have extended temporary traffic regulations on the Gümülcine–Nymfaia vertical highway (A-23) for two additional months due to ongoing road safety inspections and pavement restoration works.
Traffic restrictions extended on Gümülcine–Nymfaia highway until May 4

The decision was issued by the Rhodope Police Directorate, affecting the section of the road between the Kalchas interchange (4.4 km) and the Nymfaia junction (18.1 km), with restrictions applying to both traffic directions.

Restrictions in Effect Until May 4, 2026
According to the official decision, the extension took effect at 15:01 on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and will remain in place until 23:59 on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The traffic measures are considered necessary to ensure safe vehicle circulation while crews conduct inspections to assess road safety risks and carry out repairs on the road surface along this section of the highway.

Egnatia Odos Responsible for Works
The project is being implemented under the responsibility of Egnatia Odos S.A., the state company managing the region’s major highway network.

The company has been tasked with installing temporary construction signage and maintaining it regularly, in accordance with the approved traffic management plan.

Traffic Police Monitoring Implementation
The Gümülcine Traffic Police Department will oversee the enforcement of the measures and monitor traffic conditions in the affected area.

Authorities are urging drivers traveling along the Komotini–Nymfaia corridor, which connects northern Greece to the Greek–Bulgarian border, to follow road signs and comply with police instructions to ensure safety during the construction period.
