Thousands of Turks attended the funeral of Xanthi Mufti Ahmet Mete
Xanthi Mufti Ahmet Mete was sent off to eternity with a funeral ceremony attended by thousands of people.
Western Thrace kinsmen flocked to the funeral ceremony held yesterday (July 15, 2022) for Ahmet Mete, Mufti of Xanthi, who passed away on Thursday. Approximately 10 thousand Western Thrace Turks, who attended the funeral ceremony, bid farewell to their mufti with takbirs.
Representing the Republic of Turkey, President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop, Chairman of the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission and Bursa Deputy Hakan Çavuşoğlu, Chairman of the Grand Union Party Mustafa Destici, CHP Deputy Chairman Faik Öztrak, many deputies from Motherland Turkey and Head of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş and Grand Mufti of Bulgaria Mustafa Aliş Hacı attended the ceremony.
The funeral ceremony was also attended by Turkey's Ambassador to Athens Burak Özügergin, Consul General of Komotini Murat Ömeroğlu, Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and Mufti of Komotini İbrahim Şerif, Xanthi Deputies Hüseyin Zeybek and Burhan Baran, Mayor of Mustafçova Rıdvan Deli Hüseyin, Mayor of Kozlukebir Rıdvan Ahmet, Presidents and administrators of non-governmental organizations of Western Thrace Turks, Xanthi Religious officials of the Mufti and close colleagues of the late Mufti Mete attended.
The funeral ceremony of our deceased mufti started with the prayer and halal requests (request for forgiveness) received at his home after the afternoon prayer. His body, which was taken from his house with takbirs, was brought to the Xanthi Mufti Office where he served for 15 years on the shoulders of the cognates who attended the funeral from Meriç to Karasu. Here, too, halal blessings were received from thousands of people.
After the ceremony at the Xanthi Mufti Office, the body of Mufti Mete, who was taken to the shoulders with takbirs, was brought to the Xanthi Central Downtown cemetery. After the protocol speeches made here, Mufti Ahmet Mete was buried after the funeral prayer led by the President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş. After the burial, the Grand Mufti of Bulgaria Mustafa Aliş Hacı made the prayer.
The fact that approximately 10 thousand Western Thrace Turks, who attended the funeral of the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete, came together in unity and solidarity and took care of his mufti and his cause, gave the message that this just cause will continue in a strong way.
