"The world is a spectator to what is happening in Palestine"

Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat and Xanthi MP Hüseyin Zeybek from Western Thrace participated in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and attended the session titled "The Role of Parliaments in Promoting Peace and Development" organised within the framework of the forum.

In the meeting moderated by the chairman Jaffar Hasnain, the first presentation was made by Hüseyin Zeybek, MP of Xanthi.

Referring to the political and social events in the world, Zeybek said that powerful countries took decisions in line with their own interests in the face of the developments. Zeybek said that the events in Palestine were unacceptable and that the world remained a spectator to what was happening there.

"There is blood everywhere, there is war everywhere," Zeybek said and continued his words as follows:

"There are winners from these wars, but peace cannot be won in this way. We want peace, which is the honour of humanity, to be restored. If we are sincere, we can ensure this peace. Otherwise, weak people pay the price. Instead of using our body, our power to destroy in wars, we should use it for welfare and for a better tomorrow together."

"We will never forget the images in Palestine right now"

Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat emphasised the need for political representatives to take the initiative. As an MP from the Greek Parliament, he expressed his satisfaction for taking the floor here.

Stating that each country has its own perspective and interests, Ferhat drew attention to the crisis environment in the world and continued his words as follows:

"Crises can knock on all our doors. In recent years, wars, food and energy crises and the accompanying price increases, pandemics and humanitarian crises. We have all witnessed these events and we will never forget what we are witnessing in Palestine right now. I think we and parliamentarians should now take the necessary initiative."

Finally, referring to the relations between Türkiye and Greece, MP Ferhat pointed out that during the presidency of Alexis Tsipras, the relations between the two countries were at a good level and there were no serious crises.

Ambassador Burak Özügergin, Director General for Bilateral Political Affairs and Maritime-Aviation-Border at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Çiğdem Asafoğlu, President of Friendship Equality Peace and Kerem Abdurahimoğlu, Human Rights Expert at the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association were among the participants of the meeting.
