Teachers' Union calls for councillor elections

The Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union (WTTÖB) issued a statement calling for the councillor elections to be held in minority schools on Wednesday 20 December.

In the written statement of the Teachers' Union, a call was made for all parents to participate in the elections of the councillor committee to be held on Wednesday 20 December throughout Western Thrace.

In the statement, "Come on parents!  Let's use our existing rights to the fullest and protect the schools we own with our councillors."

On Monday 18 December, BTTÖB issued the following written statement

"As you are all aware, on Wednesday, 20 December 2023, the elections for the Board of Councillors of minority schools will take place, starting at 08.00 am and ending at 17.00 pm. Our schools are very, very important for our future.

We therefore ask you, dear parents, to attach a special significance to the elections for the Board of Councillors and to give your school councillors your strong support by participating fully.

As you know, many of our schools have been closed in recent years with the excuse of lack of children.

Unfortunately, we have lost 141 minority schools in the last 28 years.

As a minority, we must stop this bad trend.

We all know that when a child receives his/her general education in an environment where his/her own culture is lived and shared, he/she develops a personality based on sound psychological and social foundations and self-confidence develops positively. In addition, for the survival of minority education and our minority, it is of great importance to send your children to minority schools.

You should never forget that you, the parents, are the owners of our schools and that you have the right to control our schools and the quality of education in our schools through the councillors you elect from among yourselves.

Come on parents!

Let's use our existing rights to the fullest and protect the schools we own with our councillors."
