Born in 1946 in Müsellim village in Rhodope province, Halil Ilyas passed away on Sunday 8 October.

After completing his primary school education, Halil İlyas won the entrance exam to the Turkish Teacher Training Schools in the 1959-60 academic year and went to Antalya Aksu Primary Teacher Training School. He continued his education here for four years. Then, with the decision of the Ministry of National Education of Turkey, he went to Istanbul Primary Teacher's School like all other students from Western Thrace and graduated with good grades two years later in 1965-66 academic year.

Halil İlyas, who returned to Western Thrace after completing his education, applied for teaching in the village of Sirkeli in the 1966-67 academic year but was not allowed.

After completing his military service, he wanted to work as a teacher by making an agreement with the village of Kaşıkçılar, but he was again denied a work permit.

Halil İlyas started to work in Celal Bayar High School Dormitory from 1975-1976 academic year.

In 1982, he also worked as the owner and director of the magazine "Arkadaş Çocuk", which started its publication life.

The funeral of Halil İlyas, the father of lawyer Güngör İlyas, will be removed from his house in Müsellim village where he resides after afternoon prayers today.
