Strong turnout at Domruköy iftar in Western Thrace
The event, held on Saturday evening (February 21) at the municipal indoor sports hall near Domruköy, drew strong participation from members of the Western Thrace Turkish minority, local officials, religious leaders, and guests from Türkiye.
Among those attending were Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal, Mufti of Komotini İbrahim Şerif, Mufti of İskeçe and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Mustafa Trampa, Rodopi MP from the New Left Party Özgür Ferhat, FEP Party Chair Çiğdem Asafoğlu, and Kozlukebir Mayor Erdem Hüseyin.
Representatives of minority institutions and associations also attended, including the President of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Association Aydın Ahmet and the President of the Komotini Turkish Youth Union Sedat Hasan.
A delegation from Türkiye was present as well, led by Osmangazi Mayor Erkan Aydın and representatives of the Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association (BTTDD) Bursa branch.
Ramadan Spirit of Unity
The call to prayer was recited by Hafız İlkay İsmail, originally from Domruköy, after which attendees broke their fast together. The iftar prayer was delivered by Mufti İbrahim Şerif.
In his remarks, Mayor Erdem Hüseyin thanked the guests from Türkiye and highlighted the sister-city relationship between Kozlukebir and Osmangazi municipalities, noting continued cooperation and mutual support.
Mustafa Trampa expressed gratitude to both local residents and visiting guests, wishing that the blessings of Ramadan would bring unity and goodness to the community.
Osmangazi Mayor Erkan Aydın emphasized solidarity and fraternity, expressing hope that the community would reach Laylat al-Qadr and Eid al-Fitr in unity and peace.
Following the speeches, participants performed the evening prayer together and continued socializing over coffee.
