Raging wildfires engulf Northern Greece: urgent calls for aid as Turkish communities bear the brunt

As a precautionary measure, the Ipsala border gate was closed two day before, and yesterday, the Egnatia Highway between Kavala and Xanthi has also been closed due to the escalating fire situation. Although the fire has not yet reached the center of Xanthi, it is visible from the city and numerous nearby villages.
The fire in Komotini has resulted in significant damage to several Turkish villages. Moreover, many of our kinsmen have lost their shops and vehicles in addition to their homes. The local population is deeply concerned about the fire spreading to other areas. According to reports from residents in the region, the intervention efforts have been inadequate, prompting civilians to take matters into their own hands in an attempt to halt the fire's progression.
In the past few hours, it has been announced that Türkiye will provide assistance in firefighting efforts. The collaboration between the two countries in combatting the blaze is a significant step forward. Given the severity of the situation, joint efforts are crucial to effectively manage and extinguish the fires that threaten both nations
