Ozan Ahmetoğlu’s father retired teacher Özer Ahmetoğlu passes away
The Western Thrace Turkish community mourns the loss of one of its devoted educators and community figures. Retired teacher Özer Ahmetoğlu, who served for 39 years at the Xanthi (İskeçe) Central Turkish Minority Primary School and contributed to the education of generations, passed away on April 9, 2025.
Throughout his life, Özer Ahmetoğlu was known not only for his dedication to education but also for his active role in community life. He was a long-time player in the ITB (Iskeçe Turkish Union) football team, later took on the presidency of ITB, and also held various positions within the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union (BTTÖB).
His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, following the afternoon prayer at Aren Mahalle Mosque in Xanthi. He will be laid to rest in the Aren Mahalle Cemetery.
His son, Ozan Ahmetoğlu, President of the Iskeçe Turkish Union, shared the sad news on his personal social media account with the following words:
“My dear father, Özer Ahmetoğlu, a retired teacher who served for 39 years at the Xanthi Central Turkish Minority Primary School, has passed away and returned to God’s mercy.
The funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday, April 10, 2025) following the afternoon prayer at the Aren Mahalle Mosque in Xanthi.
May your place be in paradise, dear father. We will never forget you…”
