Nurcan Kahya: The first Turkish woman Orthodontist in Xanthi
Nurcan Kahya completed her academic studies at Istanbul Aydın University and successfully defended her doctoral thesis on "Evaluation of the effects of two different types of rapid upper jaw expansion appliance on nasomaxillary structures, airway and halitosis with cone beam computed tomography" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Beyza Hancıoğlu Kırcelli at the ceremony held on Thursday, 7 March and received the title of 'Academic Doctor of Science' and became an orthodontic specialist.
Nurcan Kahya, who received full marks from all members in the defence ceremony, in which Prof. Dr. Ahmet Keleş, a world-renowned US Harvard University Faculty Member in his field, participated and served as a jury member, also became the first specialist to receive a PhD in the Department of Orthodontics at Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry.
At the diploma ceremony held in the conference hall of Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry, Nurcan Kahya was presented the cap by Prof. Dr. Hakan Necip İşcan.
Nurcan Kahya, who received the title of Dr. Dt. with her PhD study, stated that she intends to continue her academic studies from now on.
Nurcan Kahya, originally from Mustafçova village of Xanthi, the daughter of a farmer family, completed primary school in her village and graduated from Xanthi Muzaffer Salihoğlu Minority Secondary School and High School.
Nurcan Kahya, who won the YÖS exam at Istanbul University Çapa Faculty of Dentistry, graduated from the faculty in 2012.
Nurcan Kahya, who worked as a dentist in various clinics in Istanbul, applied to DOATAP in 2013 and successfully passed the diploma equivalence exam in Greece and obtained the right to work in Greece.
Then, in 2018, he started his doctorate education in Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics.
During his doctoral education, he worked as a lecturer at Istanbul Aydın University and worked as a physician in various clinics in Xanthi.
During his academic studies, nearly 10 scientific articles were published in journals such as Journal of Dentisty Indonesia, Clinical Oral Invastigations, European Journal of Research in Dentistry, 7Tepe Clinic.
Nurcan Kahya, who achieved success during her education, was awarded the title of the first Turkish woman Orthodontic doctor of Xanthi after successfully completing and defending her doctoral thesis on 7 March 2024.
