Minority school councillor elections to be held on 20 December
Elections for the board of councillors in the Turkish Minority schools in Western Thrace will be held on Wednesday 20 December. The deadline for nomination applications for the elections for the board of councillors was announced as Monday 11 December.
In the statement made by the Union of Councillors, nomination applications will be made between Monday 4 December and Monday 11 December. Elections will be held on Wednesday, 20 December.
The statement made by the Union of Councillors on the subject is as follows:
"Dear parents of Minority Schools,
Following the announcement we made on Saturday, as of this morning, the election calendar has been sent to school administrations to be announced. Accordingly, elections will be held on Wednesday 20 December between 08:00 and 17:00.
Parents who wish to be elected as councillors are required to submit their petitions, photocopies of their ID cards and a certificate of permanent residence from the relevant municipality (veveosi monimis katikiyas) to the school offices until Monday 11 December.
At least five candidates must apply for councillor elections in our schools. Otherwise, councillors are appointed by the administration.
For this reason, we ask all our parents to approach this issue sensitively and ensure that elections are held in every minority school."
