Minority MP asks why Minority students cannot benefit from the right to transfer.
Referring to the laws and articles on the subject in the parliamentary question he submitted to the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Deputy Zeybek asked the reasons why minority students, who are siblings, cannot benefit from the right of transfer.
In the parliamentary question addressed to the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the deputy included the following information and asked questions to the ministry:
Subject: "About the transfer of Minority students benefiting from the special quota"
SYRIZA Government, with the law numbered 4332/2015, has given the right of transfer to student siblings in order to support students from the same family studying in different cities, considering the difficult economic conditions.
The Government of New Democracy, with the 78th article of Law No. 4692/2020, changed the 76th article of the Minority students admitted to universities with a special quota and removed the possibility of transferring to the students in this category, that is, in accordance with the 75th article of the same law, not from the criteria of student-sibling status. Only the right to apply for lateral transfer is granted according to social and economic criteria.
The right of lateral transfer is given to the children of families in financial difficulties in order to facilitate the education process. Horizontal transfers made in the status of siblings from the same family and studying in different universities and cities are also given as a convenience for parents to teach two students and to limit the cost.
For this reason, it is unfair to deprive the students admitted to universities with a minority quota from the right to transfer from their sibling status.
The Minister is asked since:
- Since the right of transfer with the same category of students should be given to special categories as well.
- Minority students are not given the right to benefit from lateral transfers made in the sibling category without any justification.
- What is the reason for the minority students with sibling status not being able to benefit from the lateral transfer in this criterion?
- Do you intend to grant the right of students in this special lateral transfer category to benefit from lateral transfers made under the sibling category for the 2022-23 academic year, even at a later date?
