Xanthi SYRIZA Deputy Hüseyin Zeybek stated that the Ministry of Agriculture is incapable of solving the problems of tobacco producers.
Noting that the Ministry of Agriculture's question regarding the acceleration of the financial support of 90 euros per acre, which is planned to be given to tobacco producers who were harmed during the pandemic process, was answered, Zeybek said, "In the response, the ministry has once again proven that it is incapable of solving the problems of the producers."
Zeybek stated the following in his statement on the subject:
“The Ministry, ignoring the urgent needs of tobacco producers who cannot benefit from any assistance, decided to give a small amount of 90 euros at the end of June. Although two years have passed since the outbreak of the pandemic, when the negative effects of the war and the energy crisis are added to this, the financial support in question cannot meet the losses and needs of the producers.
Another worrying approach by the government is its plans to convert tobacco cultivation to stevia cultivation. The New Democracy Government wants to destroy tobacco production as a hindrance instead of supporting tobacco producers. This means that Thrace is deprived of the world-famous basma type tobacco and completely disappears.
