Metios down, Topsidis up in the second round in Xanthi
It was noteworthy that the President of the Region, Christos Metios, experienced a significant decrease in the minority votes in Xanthi in the second round, while Christodoulos Topsidis increased his votes.
In Mustafçova Municipality of Xanthi, where the Turkish Minority lives, the votes of Christos Metios, who received 5.924 votes in the first round, decreased to 4.587 in the second round. On the other hand, Christodoulos Topsidis, who received 4.591 votes in the first round, increased his votes to 5.773 in the second round. Thus, while Christos Metios lost 1.337 votes in Mustafçova Municipality, Christodoulos Topsidis increased his votes by 1.182 votes.
The same was the case in the former Gokceseler sub-district of Avdira Municipality, where a large minority of voters live. Metios, who received 1.622 votes in the first round, dropped to 1.210. On the other hand, Christodoulos Topsidis, who received 921 votes in the first round, increased his votes to 1,330 in the second round. In the region, Metios lost 412 votes compared to the first round, while Topsidis received 409 more votes.
It is considered that the lack of a solution to the problem in the Xanthi Minority Secondary School and High School played an important role in the change of votes in the regions where the Turkish minority people live.
TOPSIDIS INCREASED THE MOST VOTES IN XANTHI PROVINCE
The same situation was also reflected in the ballot boxes in Xanthi. The votes of Christos Metios, who received 28 thousand 563 votes in the first round, decreased to 22 thousand 212 in the second round. Christodoulos Topsidis, on the other hand, increased the 18 thousand 728 votes he received in the first round to 21 thousand 112 votes in the second round. It was noteworthy that Topsidis increased his votes in Xanthi in the second round elections in which the number of participants was quite low. The province where Topsidis increased his votes the most in the second round compared to the first round was Xanthi (2.384 votes).
