Mehmet Arif calls for resolution to firewood distribution issues
Deputy Mayor of Yassıköy, Mehmet Arif, has formally requested a resolution to ongoing challenges faced by OGA-insured beneficiaries in accessing firewood. Through a letter submitted to local institutions, Arif highlighted that retirees under OGA insurance, as well as disabled individuals and long-term unemployed citizens, have been unable to receive their purchased firewood despite fulfilling necessary payments.
On July 17, 2023, a protocol (No. 368351) was issued to meet the firewood needs of Yassıköy residents. Although numerous residents registered and paid, firewood distribution faced delays, particularly affecting Arabacıköy, Ayazma, Yassıköy, and Büyük Müsellim due to inadequate road access to the Dragani logging area. Many residents were forced to carry wood by hand.
In a follow-up request (No. 534003), Arif posed questions to the Rodopi Forest Management Division and the Ministry of Environment and Energy, seeking clarity on refund options, plans for road improvements, and measures for vulnerable groups. The local government awaits action to address these pressing concerns.
