Meeting on combating locusts in Sappes

A meeting was organised under the chairmanship of Emanuil Tapachas, Deputy Head of the Rhodope Province, regarding the locust problem in the region of Maronya – Sappes. During the meeting, it was decided to declare the municipality of Maronya - Sappes as a "locust affected area" and to start the spraying works as soon as possible.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Head of the State Nikos Efkarpidis, the Mayor of Maronia - Sappes Apostolos Ioannou, the Head of the Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Medicine of the Prefecture of Rhodope Ekaterini Hacopoulou and Hristina Dolapcoglu from the Department of Plant Health and Quality Control.

In the statement made on the meeting, it was stated that due to the increase observed in locusts in the Rhodope province in recent years, a budget of 20 thousand euros was allocated from the state budget for the purchase of drugs and 20 thousand euros for spraying.
