Mawlid al-Nabi celebrated across Western Thrace
Mawlid al-Nabi, marking the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar, was commemorated across all mosques in Western Thrace on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. This year’s observances coincided with the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In İskeçe, a ceremony was held at the Sunne Neighborhood Mosque with the participation of Türkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine Aykut Ünal, İskeçe Mufti and Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board Mustafa Trampa, MP Hüseyin Zeybek, Deputy Regional Governor Irfan Hacıegene, Regional Councilor Fatih Ismailko, and Ozan Ahmetoğlu, head of the School Committee of the İskeçe Minority Secondary and High School, along with many community members. The program concluded with a sermon and prayer delivered by Mufti Trampa.
In Gümülcine, the Muftiate organized a Mawlid program at Şehreküstü Mosque following evening prayers. The ceremony included recitations by local religious officials, followed by a sermon and supplication from Gümülcine Mufti İbrahim Şerif. MP Özgür Ferhat and BİHLİMDER President Mehmet Emin Ahmet were also in attendance.
