Komotini Municipality introduces new regulations for taxi stands

The Komotini Municipal Council has approved changes to several taxi stands in the city center, particularly on Orfeos Street.

The council unanimously decided on two major changes to the central taxi stands:

  • Relocation of Taxi Spots Near the Fire Department
  • The taxi stand across from the Fire Department on Orfeos Street will lose three taxi parking spots.

These three spots will be moved further toward Komotini City Square to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

Additionally, three new taxi parking spaces will be created behind the Avant Garde venue.

Adjustments Near ‘Ta Aderfia’ Restaurant

Due to the high taxi density in front of ‘Ta Aderfia’ on Orfeos Street, which obstructs drivers' visibility, one or two new spots will be designated further down the street.

The Olympos Hotel will receive a second parking space, while the municipality will allocate an additional parking area behind the hotel.

As a result, the section near Olympos Hotel, Aderfia Restaurant, and Cups Café will be designated exclusively for taxis, hotel guests, and loading/unloading, rather than private vehicle parking.

Objective: Easing Traffic Congestion
According to Komotini Mayor Yiannis Garanis, the primary goal of these changes is to reduce traffic congestion in the city center, even though this will slightly reduce the number of public parking spaces.

Taxi Drivers' Response
During the municipal council meeting, which was held in a positive atmosphere, taxi drivers' representative Pantelis Mastrotheodorakis thanked both the municipal administration and opposition members for addressing two key demands from drivers.

Additionally, a proposal to establish a new taxi stand on V. Pavlou Street was submitted but ultimately rejected.
